ColourPop’s new lip products are fall-inspired, regardless of the temperature outside
Although we’ve yet to get our first real taste of fall weather here in North Texas, that hasn’t stopped the season from sneaking its way into my makeup bag.
Thanks to all the fall-inspired makeup collections that have been released during the past month, I’ve found myself filling the void of cool weather and falling leaves with lip products and eye shadows in cool-weather colors (think berries, wines and browns).
For this week’s Fab or Flub? column, I’ll be trying out my most recent fall-inspired purchase from Los Angeles-based ColourPop, a favorite brand of celebrities like Taraji P. Henson and Taylor Swift.
Part of ColourPop’s Fall Edit Collection, the Fall Edit Lip Bundles ($15 each, https://colourpop.com) come in three choices (Up and Away, Can You Knot and Out and About). Each bundle includes three of the brand’s popular Ultra Lippies in new seasonal shades.
Because I had never tried any of the brand’s products, I decided to play it safe and only ordered the Out and About bundle (a pretty trio of roses and nudes).
First impression
Despite liquid lipsticks being all the rage these days, I’ve yet to embrace them fully. Most of this comes from the fact that most liquid lipsticks are matte, and matte can be hard to pull off if you don’t keep your lips constantly exfoliated and moisturized.
At just $6 each, ColourPop’s liquid lipsticks or Ultra Lippies are already a major bargain, which makes the Fall Edit Lip Bundles an even bigger steal at $15.
The Out and About bundle comes with two Ultra Mattes (Viper and Times Square) and one Ultra Satin (Baracuda).
Viper is a true dusty rose, Times Square is a muted pink-beige and Baracuda is a warm, deepened rose. Swatched on my arm, the lip colors look darker than they appear in the tube.
Applied with a doe-foot applicator, the product’s formula goes on smoothly and dries very quickly. The Ultra Matte Lippies dry to a true matte finish, while the Ultra Satin Lippie has a more velvet finish.
Fab or flub?
Fab-ish. If the lack of fall has you feeling down, ColourPop’s Fall Edit Bundle in Out and About may be just the thing you need to pick yourself up until the weather cooperates.
A bargain buy at $15, the liquid lipsticks are extremely pigmented and give an intense, full lip that refuses to budge no matter what you do (drinking and eating included).
So long-lasting are ColourPop’s liquid lipsticks, that I had to use a combination of makeup wipes and micellar water to remove the product at the end of the day. This might seem like a pain, but I’m willing to deal with a little inconvenience for a lip product that is truly long-wearing.
Although the liquid lipsticks were easy to apply, I would highly advise that you prep your lips beforehand. The formula can be drying (especially the Ultra Matte Lippies) and will expose any lip imperfections, so it’s important to make sure that you keep your lips exfoliated and moisturized.
