Report: Amy Vanderoef leaving ‘Good Morning Texas’
Much of the attention at WFAA/Channel 8 this week is focused on the retirement of sports reporter-anchor George Riba afterr 37 years at the station. But another high-profile personality is leaving soon, local-TV blogger Ed Bark reports on his Uncle Barky’s Bytes blog.
Amy Vanderoef, who has been with morning show Good Morning Texas since 2006, will leave next month; her last day is March 6, Bark reports. Vanderoef was one of the most stable elements in a show that has been known for much turnover through the years.
Vanderoef tells Bark the parting is amicable. “There’s no mud-slinging, no slammed doors,” Vanderoef told him. “We just couldn’t come to terms on my contract so we decided to part ways. We’re both sad about it.”
Bark reports that Vanderoef plans to increase her voice-over and commercial work. Carrie McClure, Mike Castellucci, Paige McCoy Smith and Shannon Powell Hart continue with the show.
Vanderoef has had a number of co-hosts during her tenure: Gary Cogill, Brenda Teele, Kristin Mitchell, Rob McCollum, McClure (who came on board in April 2012), Castellucci (the former WFAA “Why Guy” who returned to the station as a GMT co-host in 2014).
According to her bio, during her GMT career, Vanderoef has appeared as a guest correspondent on ABC’s Good Morning America, and appeared on All My Children and One Life to Live. She’s also a former USO performer, and was Miss Connecticut USA in 2001.
