Nature-friendly places to go in DFW beginning Dec. 3

▪ Take the kids to a free live-animal exploration at 2 p.m. Saturday at the River Legacy Living Science Center. RSVP to 817-860-6752.

Other activities include an adult yoga class at 10 a.m. Saturday, $5; a Nature Adventurers class on woodpeckers for preschoolers, 10 a.m. Thursday, $15 per child/caregiver; and a holiday-themed Artini Hour craft time for adults, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, $15 per person. 817-860-6752; www.riverlegacy.org.

▪ Take “A Walk Through the Woods” to study trees, vines and evergreen plants on the Riverbottom Trail at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. From 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, kids can study some of the refuge’s smallest inhabitants during the “Leaf Litter” activity.

Most nature center programs are free with admission ($2-$5). You may register online for these activities and more, including a Dec. 10 early-morning canoe tour of the West Fork of the Trinity River, $20 per participant with paid admission. ▪ Tickets for Sunday’s 32nd annual Colleyville Woman’s Club Holiday Home Tour are on sale at various restaurants and businesses in northeast Tarrant County. The tickets are $25 in advance, $30 on the day. The tour, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, will feature five decorated homes, along with Santa’s Sweet Stop. ▪ Get tips for making your kids’ experience with birds and wildlife easier and more fun at a meeting of the Fort Worth Audubon Society at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd. The meeting is in Beyer Hall, Room 100. The speaker will be Sara Beasley, director of the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center in San Antonio. A short bird-ID session begins at 6:50 p.m. For more information, visit www.fwas.org.

▪ Get your gardening questions answered with a call to the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association help desk, 817-884-1944. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

▪ Johnson County Master Gardeners also answer gardening questions and give advice 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays. Call the Johnson County Extension Office at 817-556-6370 and ask to speak to a master gardener.
