Grapevine Main Street Fest on May 15-17 includes high-wire performances

This year’s Grapevine Main Street Fest will include high-wire performances that pay homage to a wild publicity stunt more than a century ago.

In 1914, a man named Will Taylor — known as “Bill the Movie Man” — strung up a wire between two buildings on Main Street to get publicity for his theater.

During the 42nd-annual Main Street Fest, a group called Antigravity Art will recreate Taylor’s moves with six high-wire performances between Grapevine City Hall and The Wallis Hotel, home to Messina Hof Winery.

The performances will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

If you are into live music, the festival will have three stages playing everything from disco to country. LimeLight will be playing on May 15, and famed country music singer Jack Ingram will headline on May 16 at 9:30 p.m. at the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Main Stage.

With every Main Street fest comes lots of food options, and this year is no different.

A community picnic is planned on Sunday with admission from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Main Stage. The first 2,500 people will receive free picnic boxes while supplies last. The Tate family will be doing a surprise performance on stage during the picnic.

Other food options include corn dogs, snow cones, funnel cake, chicken adobo, banging Texas barbecue, mac and cheese, fried crawfish and more.

For drinks, the Gaylord Texan craft brew experience features more than 40 varieties. New flavors this year include the Limestone Cowboy Elation, Space Dust, Imperial Texan Key Lime and more. There will be three tasting card options available.

For family-friendly activities, there will be a KidZone that will keep the youngest eventgoers busy. For kids and adults alike, the carnival and midway area will be back with the Ferris wheel, fun house, zipper, carnival games and $30 unlimited ride wristbands Friday from 5 p.m. to close.
