Leon Bridges announces new album all about Fort Worth. Hear a snippet from ‘Panther City’

Fort Worth singer Leon Bridges has announced his “most personal” album yet.

“Leon” is the forthcoming fourth album from Bridges, 35, who was born in Atlanta but raised in Fort Worth. It will be released via Columbia Records on Oct. 4.

The album is titled “Leon” because it’s Bridges’ life story all in one place, the singer said in an Instagram post.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Bridges said to his 832,000 followers. “It comes from simpler days - from my memories of growing up in Fort Worth. It comes from my childhood. I’ve been working on it for years.”

“Peaceful Place” is the first single from the album out now.

An accompanying music video for the song was also released, which sees Bridges record the tune in a Mexico City studio. In the lead-up to the album, Bridges has been candid about his time in the city and the people there who helped him find “that spirit in my soul.”

“Gotta take a moment to send some big love and big thanks to the city and the people we met there,” Bridges said. “They became a part of this record, and y’all can feel them in the music and see them in the video.”

“Leon” will have 13 songs, one of which is named “Panther City,” a nickname for Fort Worth.

Bridges released a snippet of “Panther City” on his Instagram about a week ago. The song lyrics reference summertime in Southside Fort Worth and going to the community center to play on a Nintendo 64 video game console.

Another post teases a song with the lyrics,” On Rosedale, my father said go straight home or I’d catch hell/Don’t walk around those streets at night.”

The post also shows Bridges and fellow Fort Worth singer Abraham Alexander at the historic Sinclair Service Station at 3725 McCart Ave.
