Dallas to host ‘The Iron Claw’ movie’s world premiere, which most cast members will attend

“The Iron Claw,” the movie based on the famous Texas-based wrestling Von Erich family, will host its world premiere in Dallas in November.

Movie studio A24 announced Oct. 18 that a majority of the cast are expected to attend the Dallas premiere on Nov. 8. The venue and time of the premiere will be announced at a later date, the studio said.

The Texas Theatre announced on Instagram Sunday that it will host the premiere. Fans can enter to win a chance to hang out in the “fan zone” at the premiere and watch stars walk the red carpet on Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff.

The movie follows the real-life story of Von Erich family who took the wrestling world by storm in the early 1980s before tragedy struck. Sean Durkin writes and directs the biographical drama, which hits theaters on Dec. 22.

Zac Efron plays Kevin Von Erich in the movie, with Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson portraying Kerry Von Erich and David Von Erich respectively. Holt McCallany will portray the family patriarch Fritz Von Erich.

Efron, White, Dickinson, McCallany, Durkin, Stanley Simons and Maura Tierney, will all be at the world premiere in Dallas. Kevin Von Erich and family will also be there.

The most recent trailer for “The Iron Claw” was released in October , offering a glimpse at the ups and downs of the 1980s wrestling family. Eagle-eyed viewers can even catch a glimpse at the now defunct Dallas wrestling arena — the Sportatorium — in the trailer.

The Von Erich family were wrestling royalty until tragedy struck.

They even did shows at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth and at the Dallas Sportatorium in the 1980s — a time when professional wrestling was popular in North Texas and drew television audiences worldwide.

By the time Fritz Von Erich died in 1997, five of his six sons preceded him in death, according to Bleacher Report.

Kerry Von Erich committed suicide in 1993, David Von Erich died from enteritis in 1984, Mike Von Erich died by overdose in 1987, Chris Von Erich shot himself in 1991 and first-born Jack Barton Adkisson Jr. drowned at just 6 years old in 1959.

The last surviving son Kevin Von Erich recently announced that he was moving back to Texas after purchasing a ranch near the south-central Texas town of Boerne, according to The Dallas Morning News.

“The Iron Claw” hits the big screen on Dec. 22.
