North Texas music venues fare well in Pollstar’s mid-year report

Some statistics indicate DFW doesn’t care about live music, while other statistics indicate that North Texas is home to several very popular musical venues.

Pollstar, the music industry trade publication, unveiled its mid-year report for 2016 on Monday, and among the good news — the top 100 tours have grossed nearly a billion and a half dollars! — were tucked a few familiar names for area concertgoers.

Dallas’ Gexa Energy Pavilion checked in at number 12 on Pollstar’s list of top 50 amphitheaters worldwide, with 85,145 tickets sold thus far in 2016. Gexa is second in Texas to the number one amphitheater worldwide — Houston’s Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which has sold over 200,000 tickets so far this year.

Arlington’s AT&T Stadium turns up (somewhat confusingly) on the list of top 50 outdoor/festival sites worldwide, with 88,508 tickets sold thus far in 2016. It is the only Texas venue on that list.

Dallas’ American Airlines Center is number 42 on the list of top 200 arenas worldwide, with 166,858 tickets sold so far in 2016, and is the highest-ranked Texas venue on that list.

Grand Prairie’s Verizon Theatre is number 40 on the list of top 100 theatre venues worldwide, with 95,639 tickets sold at this point in 2016, and, again, is the highest-ranked Texas venue on that list.

And last, but not least, Dallas’ South Side Ballroom slips onto the list of top 100 club venues worldwide at number 85, with 24,055 tickets sold to date, and is the lowest-ranked Texas venue on that list.
