Fort Worth’s Musicbed joins forces with Sun Records
On Monday, the Fort Worth-based Musicbed, a music licensing platform the Star-Telegram last wrote about in December, teamed up with the legendary Memphis-based label Sun Records, to offer more than 1,100 tracks from its archives as part of Musicbed’s catalog.
Some of the offerings, which will be housed in Musicbed’s “Vintage Collection,” include songs from legends like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison, in what was described in a statement as “a first for Sun Records.”
Prior to the Sun Records addition, Musicbed’s curated catalog consisted wholly of music made in the last 20 years. As of this week, more than 200 songs from 25 different Sun Records artists are available on Musicbed, with more additions coming over the next year.
“This is a historic deal for Musicbed,” said Daniel McCarthy, Musicbed founder and CEO in a statement. “We are humbled and excited to partner with Sun Records to make its diverse catalog — legendary songs that have stood the test of time and have influenced the entire music world — accessible to filmmakers with a few clicks. The sound in so many of these old tunes is vibrant to this day and in high demand from our creative community.”
“We could not have found a better place than Musicbed to help us take this giant leap forward and ensure that our artists are top of mind for the creative community,” said Sun Records vice president Collin Brace in a statement. “Daniel’s team has built a loyal community of celebrated filmmakers and creatives through a carefully curated catalog that we’re thrilled to be a part of.”
