A day after the Fort Worth Symphony confirmed it was canceling its trip to Spain in May, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced its postponement of a two-week tour planned for April.

In a written statement, DSO President and CEO Jonathan Martin cited safety concerns, saying, “Due to the recent and tragic events in Europe and the United States, and informed by conversations with national and international security professionals, the Dallas Symphony’s executive board along with its executive and artistic leadership have made the very difficult decision to postpone its April 2016 European tour.

“After careful deliberation, we believe that there is an elevated risk to the safety of our musicians and their families, guest artists, DSO personnel and traveling patrons, and therefore will not be proceeding with the tour at this time.”

According to The Dallas Morning News, the DSO tour was to include stops in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England and Scotland. A DSO spokeswoman told the newspaper that financial considerations were not a factor in the tour’s postponement.

The FWSO canceled its Spain tour last week after several concert halls dropped out of the tour, partly due to the lack of government funding and the falling value of the euro.

“Though saddened by this change of plans, we are actively pursuing options for performing in and around Dallas in the April tour period,” Martin wrote in his statement. “We will announce those activities when they are determined.”

New dates for the DSO tour were not announced.
