The D.O.C. to appear in Deep Ellum

Pioneering Dallas rapper The D.O.C., who is portrayed in the hit film Straight Outta Compton as part of N.W.A.’s early days, will be making a rare, red-carpet appearance at The Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum Oct. 17. The show, running from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. and featuring a variety of special guests, is part of a live taping that will be used for a documentary on the performer.

The D.O.C.’s debut 1989 album, No One Can Do It Better, hit the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop albums charts and featured two hit singles, It’s Funky Enough and The D.O.C. and the Doctor. However, he later suffered a crushed larynx in a nearly fatal auto accident. While he stayed away from performing for many years, he assisted Dr. Dre on his solo work before releasing the album Helter Skelter in 1996 and Deuce in 2003.

Tickets are available through The Bomb Factory at www.thebombfactory.com.
