Preston’s picks: Kanye West at American Airlines Center; Martina McBride at Verizon Theatre
Martina McBride at Verizon Theatre
Any area appearance by McBride is cause for celebration, but this particular performance is extra noteworthy: McBride, along with three other acts, is stopping through DFW to headline the “Band Against Cancer” tour. The tour is, according to press materials, “a national movement to connect those facing cancer with community-based resources and support close to home.” More specifically, “Band Against Cancer” intends to raise awareness about blood cancer and organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A presenting partner of this Grand Prairie concert is Medical City Dallas Hospital. With Thompson Square, Cassadee Pope and Hudson Moore.
7 p.m. Friday. Verizon Theatre, Grand Prairie. $34.75-$125.
Kanye West at American Airlines Center
The pre-eminent pop provocateur of his day, West is guaranteed to raise eyebrows and ruffle feathers just about anywhere he goes. All of his tangents, tantrums and baffling artistic choices (to wit: his recent fashion show at Roosevelt Island, which left more than a few models succumbing to the heat) would be little more than a sideshow if West was also not frequently capable of delivering dazzling sonic and visual experiences unlike anyone else in music. West’s “Saint Pablo” tour, which will bring the superstar to DFW for his first area show in three years, will pull from The Life of Pablo, his latest LP (and one, according to him, that is more or less in a constant state of evolution).
8 p.m. Thursday. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $29.50-$140.
