20-year-old woman struck by lifeguard vehicle at Half Moon Bay

A 20-year-old woman was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, June 24, after she was struck by a California State Parks lifeguard vehicle at Half Moon Bay State Beach, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were alerted to the incident at about 3:45 p.m., after a seasonal State Parks lifeguard struck the woman with the vehicle as she was lying in the sand at Francis Beach, a portion of Half Moon Bay State Beach, according to a California State Parks spokesperson.

When deputies arrived, they found that Coastside Fire, State Park Peace Officers, and emergency medical personnel were providing medical aid to the 20-year-old beachgoer, according to the California State Parks spokesperson.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Gretchen Spiker, director of communications with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned that the State Parks lifeguard "may have been distracted" when they hit the 20-year-old woman, according to Spiker.

As of June 26, the San Mateo Sheriff's Office has not announced any arrests in connection with the incident and noted that the department was still investigating the matter.
