Ed Kelce spills the beans on where & when Travis Kelce proposed to Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce planned the proposal himself and it took place in a garden set up around a gazebo at his Kansas City area home, his father, Ed Kelce, told a Cleveland TV station on Tuesday.

Ed Kelce told News 5 that Travis proposed almost two weeks ago, which would have been around the time that Swift appeared on the “New Heights” podcast to reveal the cover art and October release date of her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Kelce said he knew his son was going to propose months ago and expected it to happen last year during the Chiefs’ season. That timing would have been problematic given that Swift was busy on her Eras Tour while Travis and his teammates were working toward a third straight Super Bowl victory that didn’t happen.

“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Swift’s future father-in-law said. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.

“And I told him repeatedly ... you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

He said Swift’s father, Scott Swift, gave Travis the same advice.

The engagement photos suggest that, indeed, the big moment boiled down to a boy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to love him. (Apologies to “Notting Hill.”)

Ed named Lee’s Summit as the proposal location. But Swifties who spent Tuesday digging around — as they do — for details on where Travis popped the question posted photos suggesting the engagement photos were taken in Travis’ backyard in Leawood.

“Travis proposed to Taylor at his home,” said a post on the Kelce Brothers Instagram fan page Tuesday night.

It included a snippet of Ed’s interview where he said, Travis “made her a nice little, a little floral garden around a gazebo in the place where he lives in Lee’s Summit (actually Leawood) now.”

Ed said in another interview that Travis surprised Swift with the floral display at his house and that the people who set it up had to hide in the bushes so “they weren’t part of it.”

The Daily Express, a British tabloid, had floated the rumor that the proposal took place at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, just east of Lee’s Summit.

On Tuesday, Powell Gardens announced its new wedding coordination services on Instagram, noting in an Instagram Stories that the news was just in time for Travis and Swift’s “special announcement.”

Here’s how the proposal went down, according to Ed’s interview with the Cleveland TV station.

“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ ... They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Kelce said. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”

He said the couple FaceTimed him while he was at a Philadelphia Eagles practice.

He and his ex, Donna Kelce, were with Travis at the ESPN airing of the Chiefs documentary, “The Kingdom,” on Sunday night at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

Swift did not attend, but it sounds like she was at Travis’ home cooking.

“We actually went to a thing in KC Sunday night ... and his mother and I went with him back to his house for dinner, where Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other,” Kelce said. “It’s truly kinda neat.”
