‘Yellowstone’ and ’1883’ actor Tim McGraw to star in bull riding drama for Netflix
“Yellowstone” actor and country singer Tim McGraw is starring in a new bull riding series for Netflix.
The streamer announced last week that McGraw will star in the untitled show set in the world of competitive bull riding. The show comes from creator Brandon Camp, who wrote and directed the film “Love & Gelato” for Netflix in 2022.
Here’s how Netflix describes the bull riding show:
“The series follows a megastar champion played by Tim McGraw. He faces a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose very existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past.”
McGraw may be best known for his vocals and guitar, but the “Live Like You Were Dying” singer is no stranger to being in front of the camera.
In 1997, McGraw scored his first credited acting role in an episode of “The Jeff Foxworthy Show.” But some of his most memorable roles would come several years later.
McGraw starred as the alcoholic and abusive father of a football player in 2004’s Texas-based, “Friday Night Lights.” Five years later in 2009, McGraw would play a much nicer father to a football player in “The Blind Side.”
In 2021, McGraw debuted in the “Yellowstone” universe — first in two episodes of the flagship series and then in its spinoff show, “1883”.
McGraw starred in all 10 episodes of “1883” as James Dutton, the great grandfather of “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. Several “1883” scenes were filmed in Fort Worth back in 2021.
While “1883” was always envisioned as a limited series, the Dutton family saga continued in the second “Yellowstone” prequel spinoff, “1923,” which has been renewed for a second season. Production on “Yellowstone” season 5 resumed this week, with a targeted release date of this November.
McGraw was last in Fort Worth in April, where he performed a concert at Dickies Arena on his “Standing Room Only Tour.”
