Cody Johnson leads Texas contingent at CMA Awards, winning single, music video of the year
In case you missed it, Texan Cody Johnson took home two awards Wednesday night at the Country Music Awards.
The 35-year-old, born in Sebastopol, won Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “‘Til You Can’t.”
Other Texans nominated for awards included Miranda Lambert, Marren Morris, Parker McCollum and the musical group Midland.
The evening started with a moving tribute to the late Loretta Lynn with Lambert, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood taking the stage together. Burleson native Kelly Clarkson also took to the stage — performing with Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce, and Luke Bryan, who pulled double duty as host alongside Peyton Manning.
Lambert was nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the year (“Palomino”) and Female Vocalist of the Year. Morris was nominated for Album of the Year (“Humble Quest”), McCollum received a nomination for New Artist of the Year and the group Midland got nominations for Vocal Group of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year (“Longneck Way To Go”).
