8 things to do in Fort Worth, Arlington this weekend

Here are some ideas of fun ways to spend this weekend in the Fort Worth area.

1. Tarrant County RV Show

2. Turner’s Modern World

  • When: Through Feb. 6

Go back in time with an 18th century art exhibition The Guardian called “a roaring, wondrous whirlpool of a show.” Turner’s Modern World presents the oil and watercolor paintings of famed British artist J.M.W. Turner, who was one of the founders of modern art. Explore works inspired by the technological innovations and the industrialization of Turner’s time, from 1775 to 1851. The museum is offering a free public tour of the exhibition Friday, and art kits on Saturday.

3. Take an ‘arctic dip’

  • When: Saturday, Jan 8, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Take a refreshing dip in the Forest Park Pool this Saturday. The city is hosting its annual Arctic Dip benefiting the Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition. The family-friendly pool party will have a costume contest, a food truck, warming stations and free goodies.

4. ‘Dear Evan Hansen’

  • When: Through Sunday, Jan. 9

Six-time Tony Award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” is coming to Fort Worth this weekend. The show is about a high school senior with social anxiety who deals with the aftermath of the suicide of a fellow classmate.

5. Ink Masters Tattoo Show

  • When: Friday, Jan. 7, through Sunday, Jan. 9
  • Where: Globe Life Field, 734 Stadium Drive, Arlington
  • How much: $25, or $40 for weekend pass
  • Buy tickets at the door.

Arlington’s third annual tattoo expo, hosted by Ink Masters Tattoo Show, features live tattooing by over 100 award-winning artists. Various styles will be on show including realism, traditional, black and gray and color tattoos. Get $5 off at the door if you arrive before 5 p.m. on Friday.

6. Ice Carvings and Fireworks

  • When: Saturdays at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Six Flags Over Texas, 2201 E. Road to Six Flags St., Arlington
  • How much: $30 per person

Catch a firework show on Saturday nights at Six Flags Over Texas starting at 7 p.m. The park remains open during weekends and holidays in January and February and is bringing back Ice Carving with Reverend Butter, which slices 300-pound blocks of ice into sculptures using chainsaws. One-day tickets range from around $30 per person.

7. Dinosaur Safari

  • When: Mondays-Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: River Legacy Living Science Center, 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington
  • How much: Ages 2 and under free; $7 for ages 3-12; $10 for adults $10; $9 for seniors, military and first-responders
  • Buy tickets: First-come sales in center’s gift shop

Travel back in time with the immersive prehistoric experience. This traveling exhibit, created by the Omaha Children’s Museum, brings hands-on activities, fossils and animatronic dinosaurs to the River Legacy Living Science Center. The Dinosaur Safari made its stop in town in November and continue until Feb. 12.

8. Arlington Museum of Art winter exhibitions

  • When: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 1-5 p.m.
  • Where: Arlington Museum of Art, 201 W. Main St., Arlington
  • How much: Ages 12 and under free; $10 for adults; $5 for students and seniors

Check out the Arlington Museum of Art’s winter exhibitions, going on now until Feb. 27. The exhibits featured are Quaintrelle by Portland-based artist Eugenia Pardue and Oblivious Sensation by San Antonio-based artist Christopher Rabb. Groups of 10 or more are eligible for a rate of $5 per person.
