Celebrate female friendship at these local Galentine’s Day events
Calling all ladies. Here’s your chance to raise a toast to the special women in your life.
Galentine’s Day, the female-centric holiday created by “Parks and Recreation“’s fictional heroine Leslie Knope, takes place the day before Valentine’s Day and is designed as a day for women to celebrate their female friendships.
“Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” Knope says in the “Galentine’s Day” episode of the former NBC series. “Ladies celebrating ladies.”
While Knope suggests spending the day drinking mimosas and eating frittatas with your best gal pals, there are plenty of other ways you and your friends can observe the unofficial holiday. This year, several local businesses around North Texas are offering special Galentine’s Day events throughout the month of February.

Feb. 3: Geek out with your girlfriends at the Galentine’s Get-Together at Generation X Comics and Games in Bedford. Feb. 10: Stop by Painting with a Twist on South Hulen in Fort Worth for its 2018 Galentine’s Day Painting Party. Feb. 10-13: In honor of Galentine’s Day, MAX’s Wine Dive is offering several special dishes and desserts designed to be shared among friends. Choose from blackened shrimp with crawfish risotto ($32) or hanging tender steak served with assorted veggies ($28), plus Nutella tiramisu and heart-shaped red velvet cheesecake ($12 each). Feb. 13: Sweet Things Bakery in Mansfield invites you and your friends to attend its Galentine’s Day Cookie Class. The two-hour cookie decorating class costs $40 per person and includes six cookies, individual bags of icing to decorate with and a take-home box for your cookie creations.
