When it comes to holidays, for some radio stations, April Fool’s Day is about a big as switching to Christmas music in November is for others. A brief rundown of pranks:

The Bo & Jim Show on KZPS/92.5 FM “Lone Star” brought in Lex & Terry — who replaced Bo Roberts and Jim White years ago on what was then still Q102, and also had gigs at KDGE/102.1 FM “The Edge” and KEGL/97.1 FM “The Eagle” — to pretend to take over the KZPS morning show. Some listeners fell for it; some didn’t; the reactions of all of them are pretty funny. Listen here:

The late Terry Dorsey, the longtime morning DJ at KSCS/96.3 FM, was known for his pranks. KSCS kept the spirit alive by buying rotating ads on websites — of other DFW radio stations. Check it out here:

This year for April Fools we decided to prank every radio station in DFW by seeing if we could buy rotating ads on their station websites... Turns out it was actually pretty easy to do!

Mark “Hawkeye” Louis, Dorsey’s longtime on-air partner and still a KSCS morning personality, says that the rotating ads were his idea — and that he thought of it in January or early February, when the station did a test-run on one competitor’s website to see if the prank would work. It did, leading to the expanded prank.

Over at K104, DeDe McGuire’s Dede in the Morning Show had cast members Lady Jady and Michael Shawn engage in a “Good and Evil April Fool’s Battle.” Lady Jade got some schoolchildren to tell jokes; Shawn told jokes that would make you want to cover your schoolchildren’s ears. Seriously, we’d embed the audio, but Shawn got pretty over the top even for us. But you can go here to listen if you’re curious.

Finally, iHeartRadio, which owns several DFW radio stations (including KZPS) did its own bit today with iHarpRadio -- harp versions of songs by a mix of current and classic artists such as Elvis Presley (Harpbreak Hotel) and Kanye West (Harpless). Check it out here.
