Singapore Airlines’ first-class suites will have you living the high life
Singapore Airlines has a reputation that precedes it. The international airline, known for its exceptional service and flight experience, has been named the best international airline for 27 years in a row by Travel and Leisure. Despite some airlines allocating luxurious perks only to first-class guests, passengers in economy, for example, are treated to a hot towel service and amenities to help make their trip a bit more comfortable. If you’re willing to pay upwards of $20,000, however, Singapore Airlines has ramped up the luxuriousness in its first-class suites.
Only available on the airline’s A380 aircraft, Travel and Leisure reports that these suites are like “hotel rooms in the sky.” The A380 is only available for flight to six destinations around the world: Frankfurt Airport in Germany, Hong Kong International Airport, London Heathrow, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, Sydney Airport, and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
If you’re considering elevating your flight experience, here’s what you can expect on a first-class ride with Singapore Airlines.
Airport Experience
The high life doesn’t start on the plane, but in the airport itself. Although the perks depend on the airport you’re in, travelers flying out of Singapore Changi Airport have the convenience of a check-in area specifically designated for first-class passengers. At the desk, an attendant will help with check-in and getting your luggage squared away. After the check-in process, passengers are escorted to a private immigration line and the SilverKris lounge, which features private rooms and dining options, or the boarding gate. SilverKris and partner lounges are available at other airports – including Hong Kong International, London Heathrow, and Sydney Airport – which include amenities such as dining options, Wi-Fi, quiet rooms and more. Specific accommodation options depend on the location
The Suite
There are only six Singapore Airlines first-class suites on the A380, which are arranged in three rows of two. The 50-square-foot cabins come with a reclining leather armchair and a bed furnished with pillows and linens from French luxury brand Lalique. Sliding doors, electronic blinds and a suite divider provide privacy for passengers. The suites were intended for passengers who are traveling in pairs. For those who want to combine suites with their travel buddy, the privacy divide can come down to create an even larger suite.
Other features included an en-suite wardrobe for luggage or clothing items that need to remain wrinkle-free, a 32-inch HD touchscreen monitor equipped with KrisWorld entertainment system, noise canceling headphones and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Amenities don’t stop in the suites themselves. Singapore Airlines offer pajamas, slippers and an amenity kit for passengers to feel even more comfortable. Although there isn’t a shower on the plane, there are two spacious bathrooms that allow you to comfortably do your skincare routine in the air. The airline has also collaborated with California-based resort, Golden Door, to create healthier dining options, as well as exercise and stretching regimens.
Food and Drink
Luxury is fully expressed in the dining options offered to first-class passengers. Krug Grande Cuvee Champagne and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, and Wedgewood tableware are mainstays for this flight experience, both of which pair well with an in-flight meal. Meals are preordered by way of the “Book the Cook” service, and can be ordered up to 24 horses ahead. Created by Singapore Airlines’ International Culinary Panel, options vary depending on the flight and ingredient availability. Examples of meals include grilled salmon, Singapore chicken and rice and lobster thermidor, per Travel and Leisure. The airline will make adjustments based on any dietary restrictions.
