On Tuesday, as the storm crossed into Louisiana from Texas, the storms damaged mobile homes in an area north of Baton Rouge, sending three people to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries, according to The Advocate. A law enforcement official with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the report but has declined to comment further.
PowerOutage.us reported over 124,000 Arkansas and Texas customers were without power early Wednesday morning, and over two million people in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi were under a tornado watch.
According to a forecast from the Weather Service, Wednesday could bring rain, thunderstorms, flash flooding, and heavy rain along a corridor from Virginia to Boston. On Wednesday and Thursday, significant snowfall was predicted to fall in parts of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. As Wednesday’s dawn drew near, more than 20 million people in those areas were under snowstorm advisories.
AccuWeather predicted the storm would begin making landfall in the Northeast on Wednesday after first strengthening in the Southwest on Monday. Northern New York and Maine are in line for the heaviest snowfall, with some areas receiving as much as a foot.
Northern and eastern New York were forecasted to receive heavy rainfall and overall snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches, with ice buildup of up to one tenth of an inch and wind gusts as high as 35 mph.
The national weather service also advised keeping an extra supply of food, water, and a flashlight in your car in case you are forced to travel in the dangerous winter weather.
