A child of Guyanese immigrants, Nolan Baynes has always felt a natural appreciation for music from other places. He saw how diversity was inherent for music, where genres like reggae, hip-hop and bachata are intertwined.

As general manager of 300 Entertainment Studios in New York, whose roster includes Mary J. Blige and Megan Thee Stallion among other artists, he sees that the industry is finally embracing this diversity too.

“I am happy that there is an awakening,” he told DETOUR as we sat down with him at the Famous Cult Lab in NYC. “that we are allowing our natural DNA to connect to music.”

Baynes’ life is filled with music – even outside his work as a top executive in the industry.

“Music is a way of checking out from my surroundings,” he told DETOUR.
