DETOUR Sports: Shasta Averyhardt is a woman playing golf
LGA golfer Shasta Averyhardt didn’t always think of herself as an inspiration. It took her a while to accept that being a Black woman playing professional golf meant breaking barriers. Yet, with time, she learned to embrace it.
Now, whenever she travels for tournaments, Averyhardt sees a child that looks like her.
“And [that child] is inspired!” She tells DETOUR with a tinge of pride — just as she was inspired when she saw Tiger Woods appear in the sport.
With this mindset, Averyhardt is ready to continue the legacy. For her, golf is about representation.
