Afropunk returns to Brooklyn

A weekend long testament to the best in alternative Black culture, Afropunk returns to Brooklyn this September 10 and 11 to bring the sounds, flavors, and fare of Black creatives to an eager audience.

The artists featured on the lineup span genres and decades from Afrobeats to neosoul and beyond. Burna Boy, whose album “Love Damini,” was released earlier this year is headlining the weekend alongside Black cultural staple of many decades, The Roots. Rappers on the roster span from beloved icons of the twenty teens like Isaiah Rashad, Freddie Gibbs, Mick Jenkins and Earl Sweatshirt, to slightly more recent arrivals on the scene like Doechii, Pink Siifu and Bbymutha. Soulful strains round out the offerings from those like Lucky Daye, Ivy Sole and more.

In between sets, festival attendees will be able to taste the best of the city’s chefs and food trucks in the Bites n Beats section of the festival landscape and shop the goods of some of the best local makers and curators in the city at the Spinthrift Marketplace. VIP ticketholders are also able to gain entry to the Brooklyn Museum exhibit “Figure of Speech,” which highlights the contributions of the late Virgil Abloh. The interdisciplinary designer, architect and fashion icon is credited for reimagining the ways that Black creative output can interact from runways to music videos and beyond. The collection presents some works from his archives that have never before been viewed by the public, as well as collaborations with artists like Takashi Murakami and musicians like Ye, who may be one of his most celebrated public partners.
