Tiffani Speller runs two short-term rentals in Texas and stages custom celebrations for guests—birthdays, proposals, anniversaries. Every setup needs fresh décor, and those costs add up fast.

Since launching her business in mid-2022, Speller, 50, has relied on Temu to keep those resets affordable. She uses the platform to style both properties, rotate seasonal looks and stage special setups for parties.

She’s responding to a broader trend in customer expectations. The short-term rental market is valued at $140 billion, and guests increasingly demand unique experiences, say recent surveys. This demand is pushing hosts to find ways to differentiate.

For room décor alone, Speller estimates she’s saved 50% to 65% per property compared with other e-commerce platforms.

Temu has become a go-to place for event planners. In Detroit, Britney Hoskins runs one of Michigan’s most in-demand event planning firms, Top Pic Collective. Managing venues that host up to 300 guests, Hoskins credits Temu’s vast selection with helping build her business.

“I can find almost anything I need for a theme or setup,” she said. That includes sourcing accent chairs and jewel-toned décor from Temu for a Harry Potter-inspired wedding, and inflatable igloos for a winter wonderland party.

A recent Ipsos survey commissioned by Temu found that roughly 60% of respondents chose Temu initially for its affordable prices, while 33% cited its wide product selection.

For Speller in Texas, Temu gives her the ability to create high-end aesthetics at a fraction of the cost.

Speller uses Temu to furnish the homes, sourcing towels and bedding. She also regularly buys décor such as wallpaper, textiles and faux plants to rejuvenate spaces. Consumables like balloons, arches, candles and wine glasses complete the party.

“Temu gives me access to a wide variety of textures, colors, and statement pieces at once, without having to visit multiple stores or exceed my budget,” said Speller. “Having access to so many options in one place allows me to design freely rather than work around limitations.”

On her TikTok account, she documented a birthday-morning surprise staged for a client. Speller arrived at sunrise and assembled balloons, a stand, and a custom cake then slipped out before the guests woke up.

These creative event-planning skills have also wowed friends. For her 50th birthday, she assembled a rose-themed cocktail party with Temu finds and shared how she sourced the items on social media. “My guests were so surprised. Hearing them say, ‘You did it by yourself?’ was validating,” she said.
