Ramen, rolls and Devious Desserts

Hey Bud! Didn’t you write about a ghost dumpling restaurant? Looking for some dumplings.

— Kendall, Fort Worth

That’s Kintaro Ramen, which has a restaurant at 101 E. Abram St. in Arlington and a delivery-only shop in west Fort Worth. The dumplings are at the Arlington location (along with Devious Desserts ice cream), or have the Fort Worth location send over a Rame-n-Roll combo. Both menus are at kintaroramen.kitchen.

Taking home a safe family meal

Hey, Bud! Who are the best takeout family-style meals? I have Local Foods Kitchen, Chadra Mezza, Ellerbe (Thursdays), Bonnell’s, EatFajitas.com

— Text message

That’s what I’ve tried along with the Zoës Kitchen chain, which is a good value and easy, Remember home-cooking dinners and chicken-fried steaks from Rufus Bar & Grill. or West Side Cafe, and there’s lots of Tex-Mex. (The best deal isn’t family-style, but it’s a bargain: $15 generous dinners with a choice of salad, side and a cookie at Local Foods between 3-5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.)

A charge to charge it

Hey, Bud! I’ve noticed lately some restaurants are adding a surcharge for credit card payments. I have not seen any warning — it just show up when you receive the ticket. It seems a little sneaky, and it’s certainly off-putting when restaurants are trying to lure customers back. What’s your take?

— Don, Fort Worth

Recent court decisions opened the way for restaurants to pass along credit card surcharges, although they can’t charge more than they’re being charged. It seems petty to me. (I’ll only point out that Target stores give you a 5% discount for paying with their credit card at the Target Starbucks.)
