Lawrence suspension is the norm for our Consistent Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence finished with eight sacks in 2015 and now will miss the first four games of the season after he failed a drug test. Star-Telegram

It would be great if we could say the latest transgression by a member of the Dallas Cowboys was embarrassing but by now this is not surprising but rather it is merely consistent.

Be it the owner/general manager justifying the addition of a defensive lineman who was convicted of beating the hell out of his girlfriend, or the four-game suspension of a second-year defensive end Randy Gregory, as Cowboys followers we are plenty used to stupid.

So news that defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has been suspended the first four games of the 2016 NFL season for flunking a drug test we are no longer embarrassed or surprised. We’re more just mad; this team’s defense needs Lawrence, who had eight sacks last season. As of now right now this team has zero proven pass rushers on its team for Week 1.

His teammates need him and he let them down. Lawrence is reportedly going to appeal this suspension. He won’t win.

Say this for the Cowboys, they are reliable. You always expect them to hand us these types of scenarios and they seldom fail to deliver.

Second-year defensive end Randy Gregory will miss the first four games because he too failed a drug test. Greg Hardy is still a free agent, and this type of loss could open the door on his return at a dramatically reduced price.

The Cowboys’ first four games are, in order: New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers. Who exactly is going to rush the likes of Eli Manning, Kirk Cousins, Jay Cutler or whoever is playing QB for Chip Kelly in San Fran’?

Right now the team’s best available pass rushers for Week 1 are Tyrone Crawford and recently signed Oakland Raiders d-end Benson Mayowa.

Lawrence led the Cowboys in sacks last season with eight. Hardy had six. After that, the big leader was Crawford’s five.

At this point I’m all for Charlotte Jones Anderson suiting up and gitt’n after it.

According to the depth chart on DallasCowboys.com - the defensive line depth chart is God Awful.

Jeremy Mincey is a great pro but his best days are long gone. Nick Hayden is the scrappy white guy. Tyrone Crawford vanished last season. Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford are decent rotation guys at best.

Do you want some truly terrible news? The Cowboys best front seven players right now are Sean Lee and Rolando McClain.

Losing Lawrence is a football disaster that could have been avoided had he just not enjoyed the stuff too much. That’s dumb. It’s also just so Cowboys.
