The Dallas Stars’ playoff chances, which are not exactly great, took a huge hit because of a low-down, dirty hit by someone named Dmitry Kulikov of the Florida Panthers.

Stars’ All-Star forward Tyler Seguin, who ranks third in the NHL in points and fourth in goals scored, has been placed in the injured list after he took a nasty shot in a win on Friday night. The Stars are using the NHL’s “lower body” injury to describe Seguin’s condition, but take a look at this Vine and draw your own conclusions.

UPDATE: The Stars announced that Seguin will miss the next three to six weeks with a right knee injury.

In this video, it is Seguin’s right knee that absorbs the worst of this dirty shot. There is no reason for Kulikov to take this angle, other than to be cheap. All he had to do was to stand up and check him the right way - upright. Look at the video and you can see that Kulikov waited until the final second to cut Seguin at his knees.

The NHL should suspend the living bleep out of Kulikov for this garbage hit.

Stars GM Jim Nill texted me: “League has handled, per league, the player will be having an in person hearing with the NHL Player Safety (committee).”

If Kulikov does not have to sit for a few games, and pay a fat fine, the league will have whiffed.

The Stars are currently three points behind eighth-place Calgary for the final spot in the NHL’s Western Conference playoff seedings. Losing Seguin, who on the IR will miss a minimum of one week, is a massive hit.
