Dallas City FC blanks Vaqueros to secure Trinity River Cup

Dallas City FC secured the Trinity River Cup by beating the Fort Worth Vaqueros 3-0 on Friday night at Martin Field on the Texas Wesleyan campus.

The match was the second leg of the derby series between the DFW soccer rivals.

Dallas City FC entered with a 3-2 lead after winning the first leg July 17 in Dallas. Based on the aggregate, away-goals scoring system, Fort Worth needed only a 1-0 victory to claim the Cup.

“A very, very poor performance,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “The first order of business is always to meet or exceed the competitiveness of the opponent and we were a total failure in that department.”

Dallas City captured the inaugural version of the derby last year.

On Friday, Dallas City opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. The visitors scored again to take the 2-0 lead into the half.

Fort Worth pressed the action in the second half, but Dallas City scored on a counter-attack for the 3-0 lead.
