The tailrace below Lake Texoma’s Denison Dam is yielding big stripers

If you want to catch a big striped bass, the tailrace below Lake Texoma’s Denison Dam just may be the place to go. The area has produced several stripers weighing more than 20 pounds within the past week.

David Cummings of Choctaw, Okla., caught a striper weighing 26 pounds, 10 ounces Saturday while drift fishing a live gizzard shad. He was fishing with guide Norman O’Neal. The big fish was caught only moments after Cumming’s companion, Doretha Evers, also of Choctaw, caught one weighing 20 pounds.

Friday, Curtis Bowman of Dallas caught a 26-pound striped bass in the same area while fishing with guide Steve Barnes. Numerous other big striped bass have been taken from the tailrace in the past week, Barnes and O’Neal said.
