Jordan Eberle scored 45 seconds into overtime and Anders Nilsson made 42 saves to lift the last-place Edmonton Oilers over the first-place Dallas Stars 2-1 on Friday night.
The Oilers won their second straight game but remained tied for last in the Pacific Division with Calgary.
The league-leading Stars lost for the second time in three games and fell to 11-2-2 on the road this season. Dallas lost at Calgary in a shootout Tuesday.
It was the second of three meetings between the two teams this season. The Stars won the first 4-2 on Oct. 13 at home in a game that saw Stars forward Jason Spezza record a hat trick despite Nilsson making 48 saves.
Despite the loss, the Stars lead the NHL with 42 points and they maintained their eight-point lead in the Western Conference over the St. Louis Blues, who lost to the New York Islanders in a shootout Friday night.
Edmonton’s Taylor Hall scored with 5:11 left in the first period, but Mattias Janmark tied it late in the second.
Nilsson made a huge glove save on Tyler Seguin 48 seconds in and denied Jamie Benn on a breakaway a couple minutes later. Dallas outshot Edmonton 15-4 in the third period, but Nilsson was perfect in forcing overtime.
Eberle’s goal was set up by Leon Draisaitl. The forward stole the puck twice before passing to Eberle, who used a screen to send the puck past Antti Niemi.
Hall scored by stealing the puck from Patrik Nemeth and then picking the top corner behind Niemie for his 10th goal this season.
Janmark tied it with 1:37 left in the second period when he was allowed to take a couple whacks at a rebound before slipping it past Nilsson.
