Want to meet a real American war hero?

One of the most decorated officers from World War II, James "Maggie" Megellas, will be signing copies of his book "All the Way to Berlin: A Paratrooper at War in Europe" from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Texas Brahmas Hockey Club in North Richland Hills.

Megellas, 101, is the most decorated officer from the 82nd Airborne Division.

His appearance is part of a fundraising effort during the NyTexas Armed Forces UHL Charity Hockey Classic, which includes a silent auction and raffle items featuring items from the Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers, TCU and the Dallas Cowboys. Donations will go to the United Heroes League, which helps provide sports materials to military families.

No donations are required to meet Megellas, who was portrayed in the 1977 film "A Bridge Too Far."

UHL takes donations of all kinds, including sports equipment and tickets to sporting events, and provides them to children of military families.
