The Dallas Cowboys needed to add depth to their secondary, and they did that by selecting Purdue cornerback Anthony Brown with their first of four picks in the sixth round.

Brown had four interceptions for Purdue last season, and is someone expected to compete for a roster spot right away.

When did Brown get the call he was bound for America’s Team?

“I was dropping my girlfriend off at the airport and then Jerry Jones gave me the call as I was walking in the airport,” Brown said.

Brown had been watching the draft religiously up till that point, wondering when he might hear his name called. But airlines don’t change departure times for passengers and he wanted to get away from the draft a little bit by taking his girlfriend, Treyvia, to the Tampa, Florida airport.

It just so happened to be timed it when the Cowboys were on the clock.

“I just had a feeling it was going to be Dallas because I saw through the whole draft they didn’t pick a corner,” Brown said. “I know they needed a corner and before the draft I had a good feeling.”

Somewhat ironically, he’s following his girlfriend to Texas. She’s in the Army and stationed at Fort Hood.
