Josh Brent isn’t returning to game action quite yet.
The Cowboys placed him on their 53-man roster, but determined he isn’t ready to go tonight against the Giants. Brent is among the inactives for the Cowboys.
The others include quarterback Dustin Vaughan; defensive backs Tyler Patmon and Jakar Hamilton; offensive tackles Donald Hawkins and Tony Hills; and defensive lineman Terrell McClain.
Brent is the most notable, as he was added to the 53-man roster during the bye week. He spent most of the past week working with the scout team and is still trying to get into football shape. The Cowboys want him to continue to lose some weight and get closer to his ideal weight of 320 pounds.

Brent and the Cowboys haven’t said what his current weight is at, although coach Jason Garrett continues to say that Brent is making strides every day in practice.
As far as Brent, he is happy to at least be in consideration to return. He last played in the NFL on Dec. 2, 2012, and six days later was involved in a drunken driving accident that took the life of teammate and friend Jerry Brown Jr.
“I’m a very blessed person to be able to be in this position I am now,” Brent said after the Cowboys promoted him to the 53-man roster.
“It’s been a very difficult [process]. It’s something that there’s not an exact formula of how to be successful with this. It’s just something I take daily and try to do the best I can.”
