Linebacker Bruce Carter expects to return for the Giants game Oct. 19, missing a second game in the meantime.
“I probably need another week,” Carter said Tuesday.
Carter pulled up on a 62-yard run by Khiry Robinson in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ 38-17 victory over the Saints on Sept. 28. Tests showed a strain in his right quadriceps.
Carter, though, is walking better than he was last week, and he said he feels better too.
“Way better,” Carter said. “The swelling has gone way down. I did some squats [Monday], some light squats, to get my strength back. All in all, it’s a process.”
Rookie Anthony Hitchens replaced Carter at sam against the Texans, making five tackles.
