The questions about DeMarco Murray last year were about his lack of touches. The questions this year are about whether he’s getting too many.
Murray is on pace for 396 carries, which would be the most by an NFL running back since 2006, and 179 more than Murray has ever had.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he hopes Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle get more touches to take the load off Murray. Randle has nine carries for 57 yards, and Dunbar has 11 carries for 27 yards.
“The threat probably to DeMarco’s stats is Joseph Randle, and frankly, I don’t want to leave Dunbar out of this equation either,” Jones said on his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM. “If we can, it would be good to have Dunbar with a few more touches. But make no mistake about it, Joseph Randle can be effective out there, too. We probably should have at least Randle get a few more snaps. I think he got seven the other day, and you probably could push that up, if you’re going to have that many run plays, you probably could double that, and be pretty smart about how you’re exposing Murray.”
