OXNARD, Calif. The Cowboys are hoping to sign at least one corner and one safety Wednesday morning to bolster their second depth before Thursday’s preseason game against the Chargers. Two players they are eying are street free agents Korey Lindsey and Johnny Thomas, according to a source.
The team finished practice Tuesday with three healthy cornerbacks -- Orlando Scandrick, B.W. Webb and Terrance Mitchell. Things are not much better at safety with only J.J. Wilcox, Jeff Heath, Ahmad Dixon and Ryan Smith available.
Smith has been cross training at cornerback to help out there against the Chargers.
The cornerbacks who are hobbled include Morris Claiborne (knee tendinitis), Sterling Moore (groin), Tyler Patmon (hip flexor) and DaShaun Phillips (hamstring) as well as the continued absence of starter Brandon Carr (death in the family). The injured at safety are Barry Church (ankle), Jakar Hamilton (concussion) and Matt Johnson (hamstring).
