Cowboys: Five things to watch vs. the Redskins

1Commitment

Not to a relationship. To the run. Not so much when the game starts or when the Cowboys are behind, but when they are ahead. Do they trust the running game to close a game out? Or do they stay in their comfort zone, what they know best, and throw? Especially against a good Redskins defense against the run.

2The Romo deep ball

Last week against Green Bay, it was not good. Tony Romo was short to Dez Bryant on a ball in the fourth quarter that could have been a touchdown. Romo said he can leave the ball short for Bryant because Bryant can adjust. But he said he will push it farther next time.

3The linebackers

The Cowboys had to finish the game against Green Bay with Cameron Lawrence, DeVonte Holloman and Kyle Wilber. Combined experience? About 23 games, and 20 of them from Wilber. At least Bruce Carter is back this week, giving a chance at a return to stability.

4Where are the takeaways?

They’re still coming, but it has been a long time since it has been in bunches for the Cowboys. The team had 13 in a span of five games, from Denver to Minnesota. Since, five in five games. Right now, the defense can’t win without takeaways.

5Punt returns

The Cowboys are pretty good at them. The Redskins have been bad at covering them. Problem is, the Cowboys don’t have Dwayne Harris. This is an area the Cowboys can take advantage of, if Cole Beasley or maybe newly signed Micheal Spurlock can aggressively try to make a play.
