Christine Michael is set to make his Cowboys debut tonight against the Saints.
The Cowboys have activated the former Texas A&M product for the game, and he could be an option in short-yardage situations. The Cowboys haven’t been great running the ball in those situations.
It gives the Cowboys four running backs on the game-day roster, as Michael joins Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar. With Dunbar’s ability in the passing game, the Cowboys are going with only four receivers tonight with Lucky Whitehead inactive.
Kellen Moore is also active for a second consecutive week, and will serve as Brandon Weeden’s backup tonight. Matt Cassel, acquired in a trade from Buffalo two weeks ago, is inactive.
Defensive end David Irving, signed off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad earlier this week, is also active. Irving gives them another option at defensive end, where the team is missing depth with Randy Gregory (ankle sprain) and Greg Hardy (suspension) out.
This will mark Irving’s NFL debut.
Rookie defensive end Ryan Russell is inactive. Other inactives include guard La’el Collins, tight end Geoff Swaim, Gregory and receiver Dez Bryant.
Collins started at left guard last week, but Ronald Leary has returned from a groin injury.
For the Saints, the inactives: wide receiver Joseph Morgan, quarterback Garrett Grayson, cornerback Kyle Wilson, defensive linemen Kaleb Eulls and Obum Gwacham, tight end Michael Hoomanawanui and guard Jahri Evans.
