Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens, who has been sidelined with a sprained foot since Aug. 15, plans to practice on Wednesday and hopefully play against the New York Giants Sunday.
Hitchens is expected to start at middle linebacker in place of the suspended Rolando McClain with Sean Lee on the weak side and Andrew Gachkar at strong side.
“It’s difficult not being out there with my teammates, but it’s all behind me now,” Hitchens said Tuesday. “I’m getting back out there tomorrow.”
Hitchens, who started 11 games as a rookie last year at all three linebacker positions, missed the final three preseason games with the foot injury.
The Cowboys were cautious in his rehab to make sure he would be ready for the season opener. It’s here and now Hitchens good to go.
“I just know for myself I was just trying to get better in the film room and watching practice and little things like that,” Hitchens said. “I’m just excited to be back out there.”
