Doug Free continues to rehab from left foot surgery earlier this offseason, and admitted there is a sense that he is behind the rest of the team.
However, the right tackle said he has no doubt in his mind that he’ll be full-go when training camp begins late next month in Oxnard, Calif.
“I’ve done the mental preparation the best I can and also the physical stuff, what I can do, I’ve been keeping up with,” said Free, who is working on the side during this week’s minicamp.
“Just planning on getting into training camp a little fresher maybe than some other people and working extra hard.”
Free missed three games midseason with a foot injury, and then the final four games, including the postseason, with an ankle injury suffered Week 15 against Philadelphia.
Free, 31, re-signed with the Cowboys instead of exploring the free agent market.
“I’m happy to be here,” said Free, who received a three-year, $15 million deal. “I’ve been here eight years already, so I built a strong relationship and I’m happy to continue it.”
