Tyler native Shedeur Sanders gets drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft
The Cleveland Browns drafted Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of former Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, with the No. 144 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday.
Sanders dropped during the draft, with earlier mock drafts having the quarterback picked in the top half of the first round, with him instead falling to the fifth round.
Here’s what to know about Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders
School: Colorado
Round: 5, Pick 144
Hometown: Tyler
What you should know about him: Sanders has an unconventional path to the NFL after starting his college career playing for HBCU Jackson State before transferring to Colorado for two seasons, where he helped the program return to relevancy and won the 2024 Big 12 player of the Year.
How he fits on the Cleveland Browns: The Browns have a question mark at quarterback. Deshaun Watson has not lived up to expectations since being traded and is expected to miss a significant portion of the season recovering from a torn Achilles. The team also has Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and drafted Dillon Gabriel, but Sanders could compete for the starting job with Gabriel and Pickett before Watson’s return.
