Mark Cuban looked up to Muhammad Ali

LAKE HIGHLANDS – Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was crestfallen Tuesday when asked about former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, who died last Friday at the age of 74.

Cuban cited the global impact Ali had before he passed away.

"He’s somebody that if he had never stepped in the ring, or history erased what he did in the boxing ring, he’d still have more impact on this world and in this country than most people could ever dream of,’’ Cuban said. "He’s somebody that I looked up to, and there’s never going to be anyone like him."

Cuban admired Ali for his humanitarianism and for the way he affected people in a positive way.

"I’ve only met the champ once, and he was amazing,’’ Cuban said. "We auctioned off his gloves to me that he signed.

"He changed the world.’’
