The go-to play.
It’s the move an NBA player uses that nearly always gets positive results.
For Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki, it’s his post-up, one-legged fadeaway jumper, according to NumberFire, a sports analytics company.
Nowitzki is in the 90th percentile in terms of post-up efficiency. He has had 273 post-up possessions so far this season, 29 percent of all his moves, and has converted at a 1.04 point per possession clip. He scores 51.3 percent of the time and has turned the ball over only 6.2 percent of the time.
Those numbers are one of the reasons why the 37-year-old, 13-time All-Star is still the centerpiece of the Mavericks and leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game.
The Mavericks play at Denver Sunday.
