Ellis sidelined for at least two games with sprained knee

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks will be without two starters when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at 7:30 at American Airlines Center

Forward Dirk Nowitzki (right hip contusion) will miss his second straight game tonight, but went through practice Friday and is expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Indiana Pacers. But guard Monta Ellis will miss the next two games after spraining his left knee in Thursday’s practice.

"The diagnostic tests did not show any structural damage, which is great news," Carlisle said of Ellis. "He's got to do treatment and rehab. He's going to miss two games for sure and then Monday we'll update you."

Last year Ellis was the lone Mavs player to play in all 82 games and averaged 19 points and a team-high 5.7 assists per game. His absence gives the Mavs a chance to look at some other players who could possible be in their rotation.

"Whatever it is, we'll make it work," Carlisle said. "These guys are all experienced, veteran players that have had to adjust to different personnel all throughout their career.

"Right now, I'm not concerned about that. I just want to get everybody healthy.’’
