DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks aren’t sure when Dirk Nowitzki will be able to practice again, or if he’ll be ready to play in Friday’s preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Nowitzki suffered a right hip contusion during Saturday’s Blue-White scrimmage. The 17-year veteran missed Monday’s practice and will also sit out tonight’s preseason opener at American Airlines Center against the Houston Rockets.
"Dirk seems to be doing better,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said after this morning’s shootaround. "(He’s) making gradual progress, so we’ll let you know tomorrow where things are at.
"I’m not sure what his timetable is to be back at practice.’’
Charlie Villanueva, Jae Crowder, Al-Farouq Aminu, Brandan Wright, Eric Griffin, Ivan Johnson and perhaps Chandler Parsons will see time tonight at Nowitzki’s power forward position.
