Smith wants Mavs to stop making excuses

DALLAS -- Houston Rockets forward Josh Smith has grown tired of the Dallas Mavericks complaining about the physical play in this best-of-seven first-round playoff series.

Smith wants the Mavs to man-up and tip their hats to what the Rockets have done to them in this series, which Houston leads 3-0.

“At some point you got to stop making excuses,’’ Smith told Houston TV station KRIV. “The postseason is a very physical game.

“We're just playing basketball that's all. Sometimes you have to say ‘touche’ instead of always coming up with a lot of excuses.’’

The NBA fined Mavs coach Rick Carlisle $25,000 on Saturday for public critical comments he made about the officials following Friday’s Game 3, which the Rockets won 130-128. In essence, Carlisle said the referees need to clean up some of the physical play in this series.
