Paul Slavens is known around Fort Worth, Dallas and Denton for a few things. Doing the freewheeling Paul Slavens Show from 8 to 10 p.m. Sundays on KKXT/91.7 FM. Being a member of several local music groups, most notably Ten Hands. Fronting his own solo act, which has included regular gigs at Dan’s Silverleaf in Denton and, most recently, regular appearances at Fort Worth’s Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge.
Now he’s getting national attention — for not liking Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo (apparently he’s not the only one).
During his Wednesday-night set at the Live Oak, Slavens improvised a song called Rajon Rondo is the Worst that has earned coverage from such sites as Sports Illustrated, Sporting News and Bleacher Report.
Sample lines: “He’s the worst/The worst player on the team/He’s the worst/The worst Maverick ever seen” and ... well, it just gets more extreme from there, although Slavens makes room to say something nice about Dirk Nowitzki.
