All is quiet on the Nerlens Noel front, but the Dallas Mavericks are still making personnel moves.
The Mavericks signed free agent forward Brandon Ashley. They also recently signed former Colorado State guard Gian Clavell, who they saw play with Miami during the summer league tournaments.
Ashley (6-foot-9, 230) played on both of the Mavericks’ summer league teams in July. In two games in Orlando, he totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds. In six games (all starts) in Las Vegas, he averaged 11.5 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 47.4 percent from the field.
Ashley played at the University of Arizona and entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He spent the 2015 preseason with Dallas but was waived on Oct. 24, 2015. He joined the Mavericks’ G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends, for the 2015-16 season. In 33 games (all starts) for the Legends, he averaged 14.8 points and 6.8 rebounds and was named to the 2016 G-League All-Star team.

In February 2016, Ashley signed with Germany’s Alba Berlin where he averaged 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 14 games.
Noel, a restricted free agent, has until Oct. 16 to sign his one-year qualifying offer from the Mavericks or work out a long-term deal with the team. Or he could sign an offer sheet from someone else, which the Mavericks would have the option of matching.
The most a team other than Dallas can offer the 23-year-old Noel is a four-year, $106.4 million deal. Dallas could offer the 6-11 center as much as $143.55 million for five years.
