The Fort Worth Vaqueros fell into a deep hole early and never recovered, losing 5-0 Thursday night to visiting FC Wichita at Texas Wesleyan’s Martin Field.
A rowdy crowd on College Night couldn’t push the Vaqueros (0-2-2, two points) from the deficit.
“It was a borderline embarrassing performance,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “The players didn’t compete in the first half. It was what I call recreational defending. This is not the personality of this team. Rule number one is that you meet or exceed the intensity of the opponent and that was not the case tonight.”
FC Wichita (3-1, nine points) opened the scoring in the 10th minute off a crossing header. The Kansas side then added two more goals to take the 3-0 lead into the half.

The Vaqueros created some possession and opportunities in the second half. FC Wichita, however, scored twice more.
“We should have worked harder, more effort,” Vaqueros forward Nestor Martinez said.
