The Fort Worth Vaqueros will travel to Joplin, Mo., to play the Demize in a National Premiere Soccer League match at 7:15 tonight.
The Vaqueros are coming off a 0-0 tie at home against the Houston Regals last Saturday.
The Vaqueros (0-0-2) dominated the action, outshooting the Regals 15-3, but were unable to score. Houston avoided defeat when a Vaqueros shot in the fifth minute of play rattled off the post.
“We are looking forward to playing Joplin,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “They are a strong and physical team. We just need to play our game and finish our chances.”
Joplin won its opener last week when it beat South Central Conference newcomer FC Wichita 1-0.
Jorge Deleon, Nestor Martinez and Corwin Carbonell have scored one goal each for the Vaqueros, which all came in the season opener, a 3-3 tie against Dallas City FC.
“Every game we are getting better,” defender Austin Stewart said. “Now it’s time to win.”
The Vaqueros have been consistent on defense, with goalkeeper Arturo Sanchez and the backline of Jaime Benitez, Papa Faly, Jacob Speed and Stewart having played all 180 minutes.
Tyler Humphrey, Jonathan Tiggs and Ricky Meija have each received one caution. Each player is allowed five cautions before receiving a yellow card suspension.
